A prop envelope for the 2003 Defiant Theatre production of Titus Andronicus. Director Chris Johnson set the play in the present day, but he wanted all the props to be in Latin, as though the Roman Empire were a modern state. Chris likes hyper-realistic props, and I had some fun translating current cultural items into their Latin equivalents, including money, Dunkin' Donuts coffeecups, real estate bus bench ads, and a newspaper. In Act II, Scene III, when Tamora give Saturninus the news of Bassianus' death, she delivered it in this envelope. Printed on posterboard, scored and sealed with double-sided tape, it worked exactly like a real FedEx envelope.
